So, I just got back from seeing The Good Shepherd:
Now, my reactions are no doubt colored by the fact that I didn't care if I ever saw this movie, but, honestly, what a snooze-fest! I couldn't have cared less for any of the characters, and the story jumped around from the 1940s to 1961 incessently. And you can't tell me that the characters aged that little over 15 years. Seriously, I think the only thing they did to Matt Damon to make him look older was give him thicker glasses.
The main character was so lame, too. He was such a huge pawn for most of his career (and his personal life) that I just felt he deserved whatever happened to him. I was actually hoping during the final third of the movie that some Soviet spy would do his character in just to end his miserable existence.
And it's not that I don't enjoy political intrigue films; I thoroughly enjoyed Syriana last year. This movie was just so tedious.
My father, on the other hand, really liked it, but then, he has read every book dealing with politics and espionage, both fiction and nonfiction, so he was bound to find it interesting. Maybe if a person was fascinated with the Cold War and the CIA, that person would enjoy this movie. It just certainly wasn't my caffeinated beverage of choice.
